SENATOR JOHN HEINZ HISTORY MUSEUM

Devoted to the history and heritage of Western Pennsylvania, the History Center is Pennsylvania’s largest history museum and a proud affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution.

The 370,000 square-foot Senator John Heinz History Center and museum system presents compelling stories from American history with a Western Pennsylvania connection in an interactive environment perfect for Visitors of all ages.

The Senator John Heinz History Center is located in Pittsburgh’s historic Strip District, home to a wide variety of restaurants and shops. The museum’s Smallman Street home combines the former Chautauqua Lake Ice Company building with a five-story Smithsonian wing.

Within in the Heinz History Museum you will see the following:

Smithsonian Display – This display is constantly changing and unknown at this time what the display will be.

The Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum, a museum-within-a-museum located on the History Center’s second and third floors, celebrates Western Pennsylvania’s unsurpassed sports legacy. From football to baseball and hockey to golf, the Sports Museum highlights the region’s passion for amateur and professional sports.

More than 250 years of our region’s history can be found at the Thomas and Katherine Detre Library & Archives. Founded in 1879, the Library & Archives’ collections, located on the History Center’s sixth floor, are accessible to researchers, students, and the general public.

The new Museum Conservation Center, located behind the History Center at 1221 Penn Ave. in the Strip District, provides visitors with expert advice on how to preserve their treasures, including artwork, photographs, textiles, furniture, and much more.

GATEWAY CLIPPER DINNER CRUISE

The only way to see the city and truly learn about her past, present, and future is aboard one of our Pittsburgh River cruises. Your tour begins on the Monongahela River and continues on both the Allegheny and Ohio Rivers, all while our captain and narrator relay the interesting facts, tales, and river lore that make Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania so special!  We will also have a buffet meal and there is also a cash bar on board.  Cruise will last 3 hours.  Prior to the cruise we will drive up to Mt. THE FRICK PITTSBURGH

The Frick Pittsburgh is a cluster of museums and historical buildings located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States and formed around the Frick family’s nineteenth-century residence known as “Clayton”. It focuses on the interpretation of the life and times of Henry Clay Frick (1849–1919), industrialist and art collector.

The complex, located on 5.5 acres (22,000 m2)[1] of lawn and gardens in the city’s Point Breeze neighborhood, includes Clayton, the restored Frick mansion; The Frick Art Museum; The Car and Carriage Museum; the Greenhouse; the Frick children’s playhouse; and The Café. The site welcomes over 100,000 visitors a year.
